Like much of the world, my wife, dog and I are trapped at home in isolation because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. I’m listening to a lot more music and playing a lot more guitar. It’s natural that my mind would go to making up new lyrics to old songs that better reflect our current condition. For me, it started when I woke with lyrics in my head. I’ve Got The Introverted, Quarantined Blues was the result.
I’m not alone. Home hobbyists like me and professionals are changing lyrics as a diversion in these trying times. One of my favorites is the Avalon Jazz Band’s re-worked lyrics for I don’t get around much anymore.
Inspiration struck me last night and I came up with small changes to the Fat’s Waller tune, Ain’t Misbehavin’.
Stayin’ Away from You
No one to talk with Sheltered at home No one to walk with I really wish I could roam Ain't misbehavin' I'm stayin' away from you When I go outdoors I wear mask and gloves I’m through with handshakes It’s Covid I’m afraid of Ain't misbehavin' I'm stayin' away from you Like Jack Horner In the corner Don't go nowhere What do I care? Free testing Is worth waitin' for Believe me I don't stay out late No place to go I’m streamin’ Netflix Watching my favorite show Ain't misbehavin' I'm stayin' away from you Ain't misbehavin' I'm stayin' away from you
